Brief Biography

Dr. Glen Taylor is the Senior Director: Research Development at the University of the Free State, managing research, innovation, contracts, and business development. He holds a PhD in Animal Science with over 25 years of experience in Higher Education. Previously, he was the Director for Innovation and Business Development at UFS. Dr. Taylor is dedicated to cultivating entrepreneurial activities and commercializing institutional IP to enhance long-term financial sustainability. He has mentored students from undergraduate to postgraduate levels and actively encourages related activities among them and university personnel. With expertise in Biotechnology and bio-fuel, he holds two patents and designed research infrastructure. Dr. Taylor has expanded the university’s patent portfolio, increased spinout companies, and serves on boards. He was a prolific researcher in Animal Science and frequently presents at workshops and seminars. Under his leadership, UFS has seen significant growth in research outcomes and international collaborations. Dr. Taylor also advises enterprises in South Africa and the broader SADC region, having worked with prominent organizations like GTZ and USAID.
