Recognizing the critical role that strong institutional research management (RM) capacity plays in driving research excellence and attracting external funding, this project specifically targets the advancement of Research Support Offices (RSOs) in universities within the region. The project aims to substantially strengthen the RM capacity within these universities, thus enhancing the overall research ecosystem of the region.
A South African survey of metrics related to intellectual property and technology transfer at publicly financed research institutions has been conducted twice previously and the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) has been appointed to conduct the third survey on behalf of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the National Intellectual Property Management Office (NIPMO). The data and reports are intended to provide insight into the impact of the IPRFRD Act[1] and generally the performance of Offices of Technology Transfer (OTT) established in terms of the Act.
SARIMA has established the International Professional Recognition Council (IPRC) as an autonomous body to award professional recognition, developed a Pan-African professional recognition programme for research managers and implemented the initial stages of the programme with the support of various funding partners.
