In 2016, SARIMA partnered with institutions across SADC, as well as Europe, to promote capacity building and the professionalization of research managers in higher education institutions. The SADC partners are Stellenbosch University (lead), University of the Western Cape, University of Namibia, Namibian University of Science and Technology, University of Botswana, Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning. The European partners are University of Bristol, Copenhagen University, Kaunas University of Technology.
The StoRM project will establish:
- A certificate in research management (RM) course for early career research management professionals,
- An executive Master’s degree curriculum for mid-career RM professionals,
- A recognition mechanism for senior RM professionals who have already produced a portfolio of work,
- A vibrant staff exchange and mentoring programme, aimed at sharing good practice and developing research management capacities across the different regions.
In close alignment with its other professionalization activities, SARIMA will contribute to the establishment of a professional recognition accreditation mechanism for RM professionals, and implement an exchange programme to share knowledge and foster collaboration amongst such professionals from SADC and the EU.
